Technical Theatre

Technical Entertainment Crew (TEC) at Westlake High School not only allowed students to get their hands on cutting edge technology, but also develop leadership and teamwork skills that rival that of professional organizations. Adam was heavily involved in both a leading and executing capacity throughout his high school career.

Leadership.

Adam held positions on the leadership team all four years of his involvement. This included working all the way up from freshman representative to president of the entire 60 student organization. While president, Adam led record-setting sponsorship and fundraising campaigns, advanced team camaraderie, and reinforced a culture model that still persists to this day.

Technology.

Students in the organization have access to state of the art technology through the lighting, audio, and video space. Adam developed substantial knowledge in audio engineering, lighting programming, and scenery construction just name a few. During his Junior year, he designed and executed a $250,000 system upgrade of the sound system of the main 1,100 seat Performing Arts Center. This transitioned the system from an analog backbone to a digital backbone which allowed for greater flexibility and increased sound quality.

Production.

Hosting major stage productions by student organizations, supporting outside rentals, and producing live to tape television broadcasts of all regular season football games, there was no shortage of diverse video and stage production experience. Adam was an audio engineer on the television broadcast crew and everything grip to stage manager for stage productions. Every event brought its’ own set of challenges and fostered incredible opportunities to understand how to work as a team and to pull jaw-dropping productions that everyone was proud to be a part of.

Nutcracker Spectacular

The Nutcracker Spectacular is a more fun a lighthearted take on the traditional Nutcracker and is produced annually by Westlake TEC. During Adam’s senior year, he arranged a version of Carol of the Bells, by Trans-Siberian Orchestra, to be performed by a combination student/professional group. In addition to the arrangement he also designed and programmed the automated lighting sequence.

Zenith Lightshow

Zenith is the annual production by the school’s competitive dance team. It’s a tradition for one of the numbers to be a light show programmed by one of the TEC students. This is traditionally done by a Senior, but Adam had the honor of designing and programming this as a Junior.

Zenith Dance

During Adam’s Senior year, he was again featured during Zenith as the lighting designer and programmer for the opening number. This has traditionally been reserved for an outside lighting consultant.
